EXCLUSIVE: Company is selling Mika Kaurismaki’s The Girl King.

Mika Kaurismäki’s Marianna Films is becoming a partner in new Scandinavia-based sales agency The Yellow Affair.

The Yellow Affair, founded in 2010, has production companies Helsinki-filmi and Anagram Productions as partners. Now Kaurismäki joins the team as a shareholder.

The company has already been handling sales on several of Kaurismaki’s recent projects, among them Brothers, Road North and (most recently) The Girl King (aka Kristina Of Sweden), which is currently being pre-sold.

“For me, joining a sales company like The Yellow Affair is something I’ve been looking for, for quite a long time. A long term and a close-knit relationship between a sales company and a film maker is always beneficial for both sides,” Kaurismäki’ commented of the new alliance.

“I feel at home with the people involved in The Yellow Affair and I look forward to a long-lasting and fruitful collaboration.”

“For us it is a natural connection. We have the same taste in films. We understand each other,” commented Miira Paasilinna CEO of The Yellow Affair of her new shareholder.

The management owns the majority of the company while the three production company partners are shareholders.

“We do not have to take all films from them (the producer partners) and they do not have to give all their films to us.”

The Yellow Affair aims to split its films evenly between Scandinavian fare and titles from further afield. It also keeps a balance between films from its partners andthose it picks up.

Successful titles represented by The Yellow Affair at recent markets include Eat Sleep Die and She Monkeys.
