‘Reign Of Assassins’

The International Film Festival & Awards • Macao (IFFAM) will pay tribute to Michelle Yeoh at this year’s event (Dec 8-14).

Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies) will receive an ‘in focus’ tribute alongside a screening of her 2010 film Reign Of Assassins, and take part in a Q&A event on December 14.

IFFAM has also revealed the final films in its programme. They are:

  • Craig Gillespie’s I, Tonya (screening in Hollywood Special Presentations), starring Margot Robbie as the controversial skater
  • Korean blockbuster The Outlaws (screening in Flying Daggers), starring Train To Busan’s Ma Dong-Seok
  • IFFAM jury president Laurent Cantet’s latest film The Workshop (L’Atelier), which screened in Un Certain Regard at Cannes this year
  • French hit C’est La Vie! (Le Sens De La Fête) (screening in Food Special Presentations), the latest film from Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano (Intouchables, Samba)
  • The world premiere of Macao filmmaker Lorence Chan’s Passing Rain (Macao Special Presentation)

The films selected by the directors taking part in this year’s Crossfire strand, which aims to promote a cultural exchange between western and Asian filmmakers, have also been announced. They are: 

  • 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968, Stanley Kubrick) - selected by Shekhar Kapur
  • Kind Hearts And Coronets (1949, Robert Hamer) - selected by Pen-Ek Ratanaruang
  • Mad Detective (2007, Johnnie To & Was Ka-fai) selected by Guillermo Del Toro (to be presented by video message)
  • One Nite In Mongkok (2004, Derek Yee) - selected by Ivan Sen
  • Rashomon (1950, Akira Kurosawa) - selected by Martin Koolhoven
  • The Silence of The Lambs (1991, Jonathan Demme) - selected by Im Sang-soo

Mike Goodridge, artistic director of the IFFAM, said: “Michelle Yeoh is a truly global star and a great actress and we are honored to welcome her to give a conversation about her career. Meanwhile we are thrilled to announce this new group of films to close out the programme.”
