EXCLUSIVE: Apocalypse Now star to lead cast on Goldcrest horror.

Martin Sheen is to star in psychological horror The Autopsy of Jane Doe, director Andre Øvredal¹s anticipated follow-up to Troll Hunter.

Goldcrest will be talking to buyers at the EFM about the 2013 Blacklist and Bloodlist project which is due to shoot this summer in London, with additional casting underway.

Apocalypse Now and The West Wing star Sheen will play Tommy, a small-town mortician who receives a mysterious homicide victim ­ a beautiful young “Jane Doe”, with no apparent cause of death.  

Based on an original screenplay by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, producers are Fred Berger (Taking Chance) and Eric Garcia (Matchstick Men) under their Impostor Pictures banner alongside Rory Aitken and Ben Pugh of 42 (Welcome to the Punch).

Goldcrest’s Nick Quested and Pascal Degove are executive producers with Goldcrest Post handling picture and sound post production. Sheen is repped by ICM.

Øvredal told Screen: “Being a lifelong fan of Martin Sheen, I am honored and thrilled to get the opportunity to work with him. He also perfectly embodies everything I want his character in the movie to be, so this is a dream come true for me.

“I intend to make The Autopsy of Jane Doe a movie that will thrill, scare and delight the widest possible audience.” 

Expanding sales outfit Goldcrest will also be talking to EFM buyers about Brooklyn Bridge, set to star Daniel Racliffe, and Oscar-nominated doc The Square.
