Michelle Yeoh will receive the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award at this year’s Asian Film Awards, which will take place in Hong Kong on March 18.

Yeoh, who recently played Aung San Suu Kyi in Luc Besson’s The Lady, will attend the ceremony, organised by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS).

Previous recipients of the award include Zhang Yimou and Busan International Film Festival founding director Kim Dong-ho.

Yeoh has recently been promoting the environmental documentary Pad Yatra: A Green Odyssey, which she executive produced. She also stars in Gina Kim’s upcoming foodie comedy Final Recipe.

“Asian films and film professionals are full of energy and imagination. In fact, Asia itself is a place that breeds diversity and creativity,” said Yeoh in a statement.

“The region has many stories to inspire filmmakers to create works of profound significance. I am delighted to receive the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award. It is my goal to continue as an advocate of the Asian film industry and to promote a positive, strong image for Asian women in international films.”
