Mitty, styled as an emotional rollercoaster of a tale about a daydreamer who stumbles into an adventure, appeared to win the hearts and minds of exhibitors and is set to open in December. Sean Penn and Kristen Wiig also star.

Fox chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos presided over the session and said animation partner Blue Sky was preparing a Charlie Brown film in November 2015. Upcoming product from the studio includes Epic and 2014 release Rio 2.

Attendees needed no reminding that the new partnership with DreamWorks Animation has started strongly but Gianopulos used the occasion to remind them. First release The Croods has generated more than $400m worldwide and the studio has Turbo on the runway for July plus Mr Peabody And Sherman and the How To Train Your Dragon sequel set for next year.

Summer release The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy provoked a strong response and Gianopulos used the platform to promote The Wolverine, The Internship, Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters and Ridley Scott’s The Counselor as well as year-end release Walking With Dinosaurs.

In its presentation Lionsgate unveiled a new logo [pictured] and showed the first trailer for upcoming release Ender’s Game.

A separate panel on women and box office painted a gloomy picture of resistance in the studio system to lead female roles despite the powerful female film-going demographic and the global success of Bridesmaids.
