Directors of the Sundance hit succeed in raising finance for a UK release through Kickstarter.

Rural documentary The Moo Man has hit its Kickstarter target of £20,000 less than two days before the deadline, amassing 545 backers through the crowdfunding site.

Husband-and-wife directors Andy Heathcote and Heike Bachelier launched the campaign on May 12 to self-fund a summer release in the UK.

The projected UK release date is July 12 but it will screen at Sheffield Doc/Fest this week, having previously been shown at Sundance and Berlin.

Having hit the distribution target, any further funds raised before the June 12 deadline will go towards promotion of the film.

Filmed over a four-year period, the film follows farmer Steve Hook and his herd of cows. Hook works to keep his family in East Sussex small, organic and sustainable - selling milk via day-to-day delivery instead of through supermarkets.
