First edition in Brussels of Fantasia’s international co-production market runs April 10-12.

Over 200 participants are set to attend the first edition in Brussels of the Frontières International Co-Production Market.

For the first European edition of the market (and the third Frontières overall), companies attending include Celluloid Dreams, Filmax, Hanway Films, Magnolia Pictures, Raven Banner, Universal Pictures International Entertainment, Wild Bunch and Zentropa International.

From the registered companies, 115 participants are producers, 30 are directors, 20 are distributors and 20 are sales agents.

A total of 12 Frontières projects and ten Off-Frontières projects have been selected for the market, which runs April 10-12 at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.

Speaking to ScreenDaily, market director Stephanie Trepanier said: “We’re extremely excited to be on the eve of this European expansion of Frontières, which has been in the making since the inception of the event in Montreal. The backing of Media Mundus has been instrumental in the market’s rapid growth and its institutional support.

“I’m very satisfied with the diverse line-up of promising film projects presented to the industry. I’m also pleased that we have a great increase of sales agents, film institutions and European producers attending, which was our objective for this edition.”

Activities planned for the three-day event include panels on the financing of genre films in Europe (presented by the EAVE network) and on the state of VoD in Europe.

Founded in 2012 by Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival, the market is the first and only co-production market to connect North America with Europe in an environment focused on genre film production.

The fourth edition of Frontières will take place during the Fantasia International Film Festival from July 24-27. Submission deadline is April 19.
