PalmStar Media Capital is investing $200m in Basil Iwanyk’s Thunder Road Pictures.

The move gives Iwanyk the ability to fully finance and produce five or six films in the $20-50m range and finance or co-finance development or production of studio projects.

Under the terms Thunder Road also gets more than $5m in annual development capital.

The two companies collaborated on the imminent release through Lionsgate of Keanu Reeves starrer John Wick.

They also partner on Jackie Chan project The Civilian, which IM Global represents internationally and introduced in Cannes. Pete Segal will commence shooting in March 2015.

“Thunder Road has a long track record of success with both mid-size indie films and larger studio tentpoles,” said Iwanyk. “This collaboration gives us tremendous flexibility in growing both sides of the business.

“We now have the resources to greenlight our independent movies, as well as having a development war chest that will allow us to compete for any big studio project.”

“Basil is an enormously talented producer with fantastic ambitions,” said PalmStar Media Capital CEO Kevin Frakes. “We’re excited to expand our relationship with Thunder Road, and believe they are perfectly positioned to compete and complement the studios with the sort of commercial fare Basil is so well versed at producing.”
