Ang Lee will adapt Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk at Tom Rothman’s TriStar, his first project after Life Of Pi earned him a best director Oscar in 2013.

The Taiwan-born filmmaker will direct from Simon Beaufoy’s adapted screenplay of Ben Fountain’s 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award winner.

The story tells of a squad of Iraq veterans who embark on a bizarre victory tour in the US before redeploying.

TriStar partners on the production with Film4, which optioned the book. Lee will produce with Ink Factory’s Stephen Cornwell, Rhodri Thomas and Simon Cornwell and Film4.

Filming is set to commence in spring 2015. David Beaubaire will oversee for TriStar.

Lee also earned a best director Academy Award for Brokeback Mountain in 2006.
