Kathryn Bigelow and Annapurna Pictures are reuniting after Zero Dark Thirty on a true-life drama to star Tom Hardy.

The Oscar winning director of The Hurt Locker will direct and produce through her First Light based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Anand Giridharadas.

Annapurna founder Megan Ellison will also produce and Matthew Budman will serve as executive producer.

The True American investigates the story of two men brought together by an act of violence as self-styled ‘American Terrorist’ Mark Stroman went on a post-9/11 rage-filled spree, murdering two immigrants in Texas and nearly killing a third.

The third man was Bangladesh Air Force veteran and Dallas-area convenience store worker Raisuddin Bhuiyan, who survived being shot in the face and went on to become a prominent campaigner against the scheduled execution of Stroman.

Annapurna’s Paul Hanson and Christopher Corabi negotiated the deal with CAA on behalf of Bhuiyan and Giridharadas, Bigelow and Hardy.
