David Anspaugh will direct the feel-good family film Little Red Wagon for the John Templeton Foundation and Anonymous Content.

Patrick Sheane Duncan wrote the screenplay about the experiences of real-life 12-year-old homeless youth advocate Zach Bonner.

Production is set to begin in spring, coinciding with Bonner’s March Across America to raise awareness and funds for homeless children in America that launches in Tallahassee on April 7 and culminates in Los Angeles in September.

Bonner founded Little Red Wagon Foundation, a Florida-based nonprofit that he formed in 2005 at the age of seven, to help distressed and underprivileged children in the wake of Hurricane Charley.

Since then, the foundation has evolved into a broader philanthropic organisation committed to transforming the lives of American children who are homeless and in distress.

The John Templeton Foundation’s Philanthropy Project is funding Little Red Wagon and producing in association with Anonymous Content, whose Steve Golin will serve as executive producer alongside Barbara Kelly.

Philanthropy Project’s Dr Michael Guillen is producing with Anonymous’ David Kanter. 

Anspaugh directed Hoosiers and Rudy, among other features, and earned two Emmys for producing and directing Hill Street Blues.

He is currently in pre-production on the drama 4Chosen to star Billy Zane, Laurence Fishburne, Lou Gossett Jr and Cybill Shepherd. He is represented by ICM and managed by Stephen Gates of Evolution Entertainment.

Darren Trattner of Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein negotiated the film deal on behalf of Anspaugh with Steve Younger of Myman Abel Fineman Fox Greenspan & Light on behalf of Philanthropy Project and Paul Green of Anonymous Content.
