Two very different projects centring on the US soldier at the centre of the recent POW swap with the Taliban are headed to the screen, according to reports in the Hollywood trade press.

Todd Field is understood to have acquired rights to America’s Last Prisoner Of War, an article about Bergdahl, 28, that appeared in Rolling Stone magazine by the late Michael Hastings.

Field is said to be developing the story with Fox Searchlight.

Meanwhile Mark Boal’s fledgling Page 1 production outfit is understood to be lining up a project surrounding events that led to the Army sergeant’s extraction after five years in captivity and the swap for five Taliban prisoners from Guantanamo Bay.

The extraction authorised by President Obama has become a political hot potato in the US.
