Bruce Beresford has begun principal photography in Los Angeles on the drama starring Eddie Murphy.

Screenwriter Susan McMartin based the screenplay on her own experiences with the chef that came to live with her and her mother when McMartin was a child.

Cake producers Courtney Solomon and Mark Canton produce for Cinelou Films alongside Lee Nelson and David Buelow for Envision Media Arts.

Yu Wei-Chung and Brad Kaplan serve as executive producers.

Rouding out the key cast are Lucy Fry, Xavier Samuel and Christian Madsen.

“A story of unexpected friendship and real kindness doesn’t come along too often, but when it does, it’s worth sharing, and that’s what Susan McMartin has done with Cook,” said Cinelou co-CEO Mark Canton.

“Everyone knows Eddie is a comedic genius, but what they may not realise is that he is equally every bit a brilliant dramatic actor, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that an actor of Eddie’s calibre was interested in playing this part.”
