The in-demand Australian filmmaker, whose The Rover is tipped for a Cannes berth, will write and direct the Brad Pitt starring vehicle for Plan B and RatPac Entertainment.

Pitt will produce The Operators along with his Plan B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner.

The Operators is based on Michael Hastings’ bestseller of the same name about the rise and fall of General Stanley McChrystal, the commanding general of international and US forces in Afghanistan who resigned after indiscreet remarks in a Rolling Stone interview.

New Regency and Plan B recently partnered on 12 Years A Slave and signed a multi-year producing partnership late last year under which New Regency and RatPac Entertainment co-finance films for Plan B.
