Demarest Films and Kilburn Media are backing Jeremy Renner and writer-director Don Handfield’s film and TV production company The Combine.

In exchange for overhead costs and a “substantial” development fund, the financiers gets first-look option to produce and finance all content the company originates.

Principals Sam Englebardt and William D Johnson of Demarest and Mark Manuel and Ted O’Neal of Kilburn will work side-by-side with Renner and Handfield.

The Combine deal marks the first of several new joint ventures in a deeper collaboration between Demarest and Kilburn, who have partnered to produce and finance several films over the past three years.

Renner and Handfield founded The Combine in 2011, which produced the upcoming Kill The Messenger with Bluegrass Films, which Focus Features releases this autumn.
