Producer Pablo José Barroso has established the privately backed production and finance company based in Mexico City.
The goal is to produce two to four features in the $10-50m range and one to two television series budgeted at $5-10m a year.
All content will be English-language with “positive messaging” for a global audience.
The first two film projects are the animated feature Max & Me and Maccabees, a live-action feature about an ancient Jewish revolt led by Judah Maccabee.
“We are a company that puts material first and will develop and explore inspiring stories and find a way to bring them to the big screen,” said Barroso, who will run the company as CEO alongside producing collaborator Claudia Nemer as COO.
“We believe there is an underserved market for content touting strong values so our ambition is to help fill this void in the marketplace and deliver the highest quality movies and TV product to audiences worldwide.”
Nemer added: “We are inspired by stories that deliver human values without sacrificing the commercial entertainment values that propel Hollywood. We are thrilled to take on this exciting new endeavor together and work creatively and collaboratively to build something very special.”
Donovan Cook directs Max & Me from a screenplay by Bruce Morris. Patricia García Peña and Gregorio Núñez’s IMagica is the animation company and the voice cast includes David Henrie, Ashley Greene from the Twilight franchise, Neal McDonough and Hector Elizondo.
The film recounts the true story of the Polish priest Maximilian Kolbe and his struggles to protect Jews after the Nazi invasion in WWII.
Prior to forming Dos Corazones, Barroso produced Mexican release For Greater Glory: The True Story Of Cristiada starring Andy Garcia and Oscar Isaac. In 2008 he built a 3D animation studio and created the faith-based animation and box office hit The Greatest Miracle.
