The Swedish Film Institute is backing Johan Brisinger’s upcoming feature Among Us (Änglavakt) with$1m (SEK 8m). Michael Nyqvist, star of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, has already signed up to playthe lead.

Brisinger, whose previous film Suddenly won the Audience Guldbagge, the Swedish national film prize, has penned Among Us himself and Mikael Flodell will produce for Drama Svecia. Nyqvist will be joined by Izabella Scorupco and Tchéky Karyo in the drama about a couple whose lives are suddenly turned upside down.

Denmark’s Sonja Richter, Sweden’s Jonas Karlsson and Norway’s Kristoffer Joner will star in Kristian Petri’s Bad Faith (Ond Tro), which has also been allocated $1 million (SEK 8m). The psychological thriller about a woman, who witnesses a murder and becomes obsessed with the assassin, is scripted by Magnus Dahlström, and will be produced by Johannes Åhlund for St Paul Film.

Othman Karim (About Sara/Om Sara) received $800,000 (SEK 7m) for DearAlice, a story about four people who make trivial decisions that become fatal as their lives are intertwined. The film will be produced by Malin Holmberg-Karim and Hans Lönnerheden for One Tired Brother Productions.

Babak Najafi has also received backing for his feature debut, Sebbe, which Rebecka Lafrenz and Mimmi Spång will produce for Garagefilm International; Lasse Persson, Karin Nilsson and Per Åhlin will direct the fully-animated Lilla spöket Laban, the fourth in the ghost series, for Lars Blomgren-Filmlance International.

The institute will also chip in for co-productions from Sweden’s Atmo Media Network, including Danish director Michael Madsen’s documentary, Into Eternity, about nuclear waste, produced by Denmark’s Magic Hour Films and Estonian director Veikko Öunpuu’s drama, The Temptation of St Tony (Estonia’s Homeless Bob Production).
