James McTeigue recently directed Edgar Allen Poe thriller The Raven for FilmNation and Intrepid Pictures, which Relativity will release on Mar 9, 2012.

Production on Message From The King is set to begin in late august. FilmNation is handling international sales and head of production Aaron Ryder is producing with Rhodri Thomas of The Ink Factory and Ash Shah.

Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell (Unknown) wrote the character-driven piece about a man who travels to Los Angeles to find his missing sister.

“After working with James on The Raven and then seeing a cut of the film, it was very clear to us that we needed to make his next movie,” Ryder said. “We are thrilled to be working with him again.”

Cornwell and Butcher are currently adapting the Warren Ellis graphic novel series Gravel for Legendary Pictures. Cornwell is also the co-founder of The Ink Factory, which is prepping the John le Carré adaptation A Most Wanted Man which Anton Corbijn will direct.

FilmNation recently finished House At The End Of The Street starring Jennifer Lawrence and is fully financing the untitled Oren Peli project. The development slate includes Mud, which will be directed by Take Shelter’s Jeff Nichols, F*cking Engaged to star Jessica Biel and The Amateur American to be directed by Ross Katz.

Head of business affairs Alison Cohen negotiated the deal for FilmNation with CAA on behalf of McTeigue.
