Sarah Dowland will head department.

Visual effects company Framestore is launching a new film division in New York.

he first major project to come out of the new department will be Philip Noyce’s forthcoming summer blockbuster Salt, starring Angelina Jolie.

VFX executive producer Sarah Dowland, who has been brought over from Framestore’s main UK office, will be heading up the department. Her credits included Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban and V For Vendetta. She will be joined by VFX supervisor Ivan Moran and CG supervisor Theo James, who are also transferring from the UK office.

Framestore opened a NY office in 2003 to provide visual effects services to the advertising world.

“We are really excited to add a film division to Framestore in New York,” said Dowland.  “There is a very established film community here, lots of directors and editors live and work on the East Coast, and we wanted to offer our experience in producing high-end world-class visual effects to it.”

Jon Collins, Framestore NY’s president added:  “We are excited about the addition of a film division at Framestore NY. Just as we recognized an opportunity to provide premium VFX/CGi to the East Coast agencies seven years ago, we are now recognizing a demand for top level film VFX/CGi.
