Asa Butterfield, Carla Gugino and Britt Robertson have also joined the untitled intergalactic love story that Peter Chelsom will direct.
The film will centre on the first human born on an experimental colony on Mars who strikes up an online romance with an earth-bound girl and embarks on a quest to meet her and discover the truth about his creation.
Production is scheduled for autumn with Richard Lewis serving as producer and Allan Loeb, Steven Pearl and Doug Urbanski on board as executive producers.
The screenplay is by Loeb with revisions by Chelsom and Tinker Lindsay from a story by Lewis, Stewart Schill and Loeb.
STX Entertainment chairman of the motion picture group Adam Fogelson and president and chief content office Oren Aviv made the announcement on Friday.
The untitled project will join the sale slate of recently arrived president of international sales, John Friedberg.
