Sven Hughes’ directorial debut The Federation backed by UK producers

UK production outfit Generator Entertainment is developing spy-thriller The Federation, from writer and first-time director Sven Hughes.

The espionage thriller about the British and Russian security services is currently casting, with a UK-based shoot planned towards the end of 2011.

Hughes, a former reserve soldier, is best known as a feature writer (Ghost Machine) and shorts director (Roach).

Northern Ireland based Generator Entertainment comprises producers Mark Huffam (Saving Private Ryan, Mamma Mia), Simon Bosanquet (Killing Bono, Ripley’s Game) and Aidan Elliott (Whole Lotta Sole, Killing Bono).

“We are delighted to have this exciting script in development at Generator. The Federation offers a fascinating insight into the clandestine and brutal world of contemporary international espionage. Sven Hughes has delivered a breathtaking script. The Federation is something very different from Bond or Bourne: something very fresh. We have every confidence that Sven will now transfer his vision from page to screen with equal flair,” said Bosanquet.
