Qurbani’s debut feature Shahada had been in competition at the Berlinale in 2010 and he had pitched this second feature as a project at the Sofia Meetings in 2011.

We Are Young, We Are Strong is a fictional dramatisation of the riots in a Rostock suburb in August 1992 as seen through the perspectives of three different characters – a frustrated unemployed young man, an ambitious local politician and a Vietnamese woman hoping for a new life in Germany.

Producer Leif Alexis told Screen that principal photography on the teamWorx Ludwigsburg production will begin on April 22.

It is being co-produced by ZDF/Das kleine Fernsehspiel and ARTE with backing from Mitteldeutsche Medienfoerderung, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and BKM.
