Grindstone Pictures has acquired feature rights to Christ Recrucified from Nikos Kazantzakis, the author behind The Last Temptation Of Christ.

Grindstone and Vincent Miller will produce the property under the name Christ Is Risen.

The film version will relocate the setting from Greece to a Mexico ruled by drug barons, where a tough local takes on the role of Jesus in the ritual performance of a passion play with catastrophic consequences.

Gil J Botello and Vincent Baksanski are attached to write the screenplay.
