Anne Hathaway, currently starring opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Love And Other Drugs, will play the villain Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming The Dark Knight Rises.

Hathaway joins Christian Bale and Tom Hardy, who will play the villain Bane.

In a statement director-writer-producer Christopher Nolan said: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

Nolan had this to say of Hardy, who starred for him in the 2010 summer smash Inception: “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S Goyer. He will also produce with his longtime producing partner Emma Thomas, as well as Charles Roven.

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for release through Warner Bros on Jul 20, 2012.
