Irish-UK co-productions Jump and Whole Lotta Sole are currently shooting in Belfast, while Ugly Duckling is preparing its May shoot in Spain.

A young man who unsuccessfully attempts to rob a fish shop in order to pay off his gambling debts is at the centre of Whole Lotta Sole. Directed by Terry George [pictured], the comedy is currently shooting in Belfast, starring Brendan Fraser, Martin McCann and Colm Meaney among others. George co-wrote the screenplay with Thomas Gallagher and it is produced by Jay Russell for Belfast-based Generator Entertainment. The $5.5m budget received financial backing from the Northern Ireland Screen.

Also currently shooting in Northern Ireland is Kieron J Walsh’s Jump which follows the trials and tribulations of three unrelated groups of characters on New Year’s Eve, whose lives turn out to be intertwined. Katie Holly and Brendan J Byrne produce for Blinder Films and Hotshot Films respectively. The comedy thriller, written by Lisa McGee, stars Nichola Burley, Valene Kane, Richard Dormer and Charlene McKenna. The Irish Film Board, Northern Ireland Screen, BBC Northern Ireland, Firefly Film Sales and Bentico Trading Limited have provided funding support, and AV Pictures has been appointed as international sales agent.

Laura Esquivel and Juan Darthes will head the cast for La Zona’s Ugly Duckling, due to commence shooting in Madrid from late May. The comedy, which is based on an Argentinean television series, follows two rival musical dance groups doing battle in a school. It will be directed by Jose Manuel Carrasco, with Gonzalo Salazar-Simpson acting as producer for La Zona. Aurum Producciones will release in Spain.
