This Saturday (7) shooting will kick off in east London on Luis Prieto’s remake of Nicolas Winding Refn’s 1996 thriller Pusher, with Richard Coyle, Agyness Deyn, Bronson Webb and Paul Kaye lined up to star. The thriller follows a drug dealer who grows increasingly desperate after a botched deal leaves him with a large debt to a ruthless drug lord. Winding Refn is executive producing and Rupert Preston, Felix Vossen and Chris Simon are producing for Vertigo and Embargo Films. Gaumont has been appointed as the international sales agent.
A woman becomes involved with a group of men who have found a way to work the sportsbook system in Las Vegas to their advantage in Lay The Favorite. UK’s Ruby Films has joined forces with Focus Features International and Random House Films for this $20m production that is currently shooting in Las Vegas, with Rebecca Hall, Bruce Willis and Catherine Zeta-Jones in the title roles. The comedy is based on the memoir of Beth Raymer and has been adapted for the big screen by D.V. DeVincentis, who is also producing. Stephen Frears is in the director’s chair. Wild Bunch handles international sales and Focus Features will distribute both stateside and in the UK in 2012.
Clive Owen and Anil Kapoor will star in Roger Donaldson’s Cities which combines three intertwining stories: a New York hedge fund manager who has everything he desires, but he wants more; a young couple in London who seem to be unable to buy their first home; and a police officer in Mumbai who fights against corruption between property speculators and his colleagues. Donaldson also co-scripted the thriller with Glenn Wilhide, and Chris Curling is producing for Zephyr Films. Eyeworks New Zealand is also on board. Shooting is scheduled to commence this October. Parlay Films handles international sales and will take the film to Cannes next week.
