This week’s highlights on Screen’s European Film Index include Dan Turner’s The Man Inside as well as French director Pierre Jolivet’s Armed Hands.

A young boxer who was brought up by a criminal father and is determined to life a quiet life has to face his own demons when his brother gets killed in Dan Turner’s crime thriller The Man Inside. Scripted by the director, the film stars Peter Mullan (pictured), Ashley Thomas and David Harewood among others and is being produced by Dean Fisher and Ray Panthaki for Scanner-Rhodes Productions and Urban Way Productions. Northern Film And Media provided some financial backing. Shooting is scheduled to wrap at the end of this month with Kaleidoscope handling international sales and also distributing in the UK.

On Monday July 11, principal photography got underway in Paris on Pierre Jolivet’s crime film Armed Hands, which centres on an encounter between a leading officer investigating trafficking in Marseille and a young police officer from a drug squad in Paris. Leïla Bekhti, Roschdy Zem and Marc Lavoine will star. Jolivet co-wrote the script with Simon Michael, with Xavier Rigault and Marc-Antoine Robert producing for 2.4.7. Films and France 2 Cinema. Funding for the $12m feature has been provided by Canal +, Ciné+ and Sofica Banque Postale. Shooting will complete in mid-September and Mars Distribution will release in France. Films Distribution is handling international sales.
