Barnard has wrapped principle photography for her follow up to award-winning documentary The Arbor, after shooting in Bradford for six weeks. Inspired by Oscar Wilde’s story of the same name, The Selfish Giant stars Conner Chapman and Shaun Thomas in their debut acting roles as two teenage boys, who are outsiders at school and in their community and get caught up in the world of copper theft when they meet a local scrapman (played by Sean Glider). Siobhan Finneran, Lorraine Ashbourne and Steve Evetsare are also among the cast.

Tracy O’Riordan is producing the film through her company Moonspun Films and it received financial backing from Film4 and the British Film Institute. Protagonist Pictures has been appointed as the international sales agent.

Barnard also wrote the screenplay, basing it on stories she was told and people that she met whilst making her feature debut The Arbor.
