Among the many updates and new projects already announced in Berlin are Belly Dancing For Beginners starring Sheridan Smith and Liv Ullmann’s Miss Julie.

Sheridan Smith will star in Debbie Isitt’s new comedy Belly Dancing For Beginners about a woman who goes on holiday with her mother and sister to mend a recent heartbreak. The screenplay was written by Rachel Cuperman and Sally Griffiths and the film is jointly produced by Marc Samuelson and Nick Jones. Shooting is scheduled to go underway in Turkey in June and Bankside Films handles international sales.

Liv Ullmann will direct Miss Julie, an adaptation of August Strindberg’s 1888 play, which captures the emotional power struggle between a spirited young aristocrat and one of her father’s servants. Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton and Jessica Chastain [pictured] have signed up star in the drama, which is produced by Norway’s Maipo AS, France’s Señorita Films and Wild Bunch as well as the UK’s Apocalypse Films Company. The Norwegian Film Instituteprovided financial backing and Wild Bunch is handling international sales. Principal photography will start in early April.
