George Clooney commences principal photography on The Monuments Men, while sci-fi Dreck completes its shoot.

Last week (March 6) George Clooney started shooting his latest film The Monuments Men in Germany. Clooney directs, stars and also co-wrote the script.

The drama centres on a group from the art world, who are sent by resident Franklin D. Roosevelt into Germany during World War II to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves. The story is based on the book by Robert M. Edsel and Bret Witter.

The drama is a US-German co-production between Smoke House and Siebente Babelsberg Film (a subsidiary of Studio Babelsberg). The cast also includes Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville and John Goodman.

Shooting is scheduled to finish at the end of June in the US and 20th Century Fox International is handling international sales with Sony Pictures releasing in the US on December 18.

Justin Trefgarne’s Dreck has wrapped its shoot in Wales.

The thriller is set in the near future, where Frank Grieves is part of a new breed of police officers who are working in a city where all recreational drugs are legal. When he is taken off a case involving an unidentified corpse, he discovers that legalization has come at a price.

It stars James Callis, Jonathan Pryce, Elodie Yung, Elliot Cowan and Robert Bathurst.

Eldar Turvey produces for T Squared Films, which will also distribute the film in the UK later this year.
