The film, produced by Alcon Entertainment, is based on the first in the series of best selling novels by Kami Carcia and Margaret Stohl and is also set to star Viola Davis.

Jack O’Connell and Alice Englert are in final negotiations to star in Beautiful Creatures based on the first in the series of Kami Carcia and Margaret Stohl’s New York Times best selling novels.

Richard LaGravenese will direct from his adaptation of the book, which centres around two star crossed teenage lovers who uncover dark secrets about their family, their history and their town.

It was announced last week that Oscar nominee Viola Davis is also in negotiations to star.

Alcon Entertainment has film rights to all three books in the series including Beautiful Darkness and Beautiful Chaos and is hoping to kick off a possible franchise at Warner Bros. The first film will be released by Warner Bros via Alcon’s output deal.

Erwin Stoff will produce along with Alcon founders and CEOs Kosove and Johnson. 

O’Connell is best known for roles in the This is England, and Harry Brown, whilst newcomer Englert recently wrapped filming on Singularity starring Josh Hartnett and Neve Campbell.   

Filming will begin in April in and around New Orleans.  

Alcon recently produced Dolphin Tale starring Morgan Freeman, Harry Connick Jr and Ashley Judd.
