CAA and WME will introduce what is likely to become a hot property at next week’s EFM in Berlin at a time when US sales agents continue to scramble for new projects.

Michael Cuesta, coming off another triumphant Golden Globes night for the smash TV series Homeland, will direct the story of San Jose Mercury investigative reporter Gary Webb that is set to commence production this summer.

The Pulitzer-Prize-winning Webb wrote the Dark Alliance series of articles in 1996 that exposed an alleged link between the CIA-backed Contra rebels and proceeds from cocaine sales in Los Angeles orchestrated by Nicaraguan drug lords.

Webb was found dead in 2004 from gunshot wounds to the head. The coroner’s office returned a verdict of suicide.

Peter Landesman wrote the script and Renner and Don Handfield will produce through their production company The Combine alongside Scott Stuber

Renner identified the material and CAA is putting financing together and packaging the project. CAA and WME will jointly represent US rights.

Renner stars in the recent number one US release Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters.

CAA represents Renner and Stuber and Untitled Entertainment manages Renner. WME represents Cuesta.
