Kanzaman to produce Blood Wedding, also comes on board for Don Quixote

Gilliam’s second attempt at The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, following his disastrous effort 10 years ago, will be produced by Kanzaman’s Denise O’Dell, alongside renowned UK producer Jeremy Thomas of Recorded Picture Company.

The film will be a modern and comical telling of Miguel De Cervantes’ famous novel, involving a 21st Century advertising executive who travels back in time to 17th Century Spain where he encounters Don Quixote, who will be played by Robert Duvall. Further details on the project’s financing and shooting will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Kanzaman will also be producing Blood Wedding, a $10m English-language project based on renowned Spanish playwright and poet Federico Garcia Lorca’s famous play of the same name about a young bride to be in Andalucia who has a fraught relationship with her future mother-in-law and then abandons her husband on their wedding day to run off with her forbidden love.

Veteran US TV director David Carson (Star Trek, Smallville) will write and direct the film, which is due to shoot next spring in Spain, possibly in the Valencia region.

“We are currently approaching major A-list actresses for one of the lead roles and then hope to secure a large part of the financing and other cast members,” Denis Pedregosa at Kanzaman Films tells ScreenDaily.

Kanzaman is also attached to work on the $14m Bollywood film You Only Live Once, directed by Zoya Akhtar, and starring leading Indian actors Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Katrina Kaif. 

The film is a comedy about a group of guys who go on a bachelor party in Spain and take part in several crazy activities, including the bull run. Indian outfit Excel Entertainment are producing with Kanzaman running the physical production of the shoot, which will take place in Pamplona, Barcelona, Andalucia and Valencia.
