South Africa’s Triggerfish Animation announced the latest voice cast element on the follow-up to the hit Zambezia. Cinema Management Group handles international sales and Millennium Entertainment will release in the US this year.

Fishburne joins previously announced Liam Neeson, AnnaSophia Robb, Jake T Austin, Loretta Devine and Richard E Grant on the 3D adventure about a half-striped zebra who goes in search of a magical watering hole.

Fishburne will play opposite Austin in the role of Khumba’s father, Seko. Robb will voice Tombi, Khumba’s female friend and Neeson voices the ferocious leopard Phango.

Triggerfish writers Raffaella Delle Donne and project director Anthony Silverston wrote Khumba [pictured] in consultation with The Lion King co-writer Jonathan Roberts. Stuart Forrest of Triggerfish Animation Studios produces.

Cinema Management Group head Edward Noeltner and his team have licensed rights in around 50 territories and expect to close the UK, Australia, Italy, Spain and Scandinavia after the market premiere screening in Cannes.

“Fishburne’s performance as Seko was terrific,” said Noeltner. “His powerful voice and amazing acting talents really show off in his role as Khumba’s father and we are honored to have him on board as our newest voice cast member. We’ll be adding the final voice cast members before the film screens in Cannes.”

“It’s great to be able to work with professional actors of this caliber – Fishburne’s acting brought a depth into the animated character and we’re thrilled with the results,” added Triggerfish Animation CEO Stuart Forrest.

Adventures In Zambezia recently became the highest grossing South African film of the last 30 years.
