Renowned second unit director Simon Crane will direct Legendary Pictures’ Mattel adaptation Hot Wheels from a screenplay by Paul Attanasio.

Legendary executives said Attanasio will rewrite from a draft by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who originally attracted Crane to the project.

Joe Roth, Palak Patel, and Sam Mercer of Roth Films will produce with Legendary. Alex Garcia is overseeing the project for Legendary. Universal will get the first look at the project pursuant to its deal with Legendary.

Crane most recently performed second unit director on World War Z and the upcoming Edge Of Tomorrow.

Attanasio recently wrote Scarface for Universal and previously wrote The Sum Of All Fears. His credits include Quiz Show and Donnie Brasco, both of which earned him Oscar nominations.
