Principal photography is set to begin in New Orleans on Feb 13 on the story of a tough middle-aged women’s basketball team. Brooke Shields, Daryl Hannah, Melanie Griffith, Wanda Sykes, and Camryn Manheim star.

Susan Seidelman will direct from a screenplay by Brad Hennig and Nina Henderson Moore, Hennig, and Seidelman are producing. Laurie Lacob serves as executive producer.

The film is financed by private equity investors, mostly women from Silicon Valley. Santa Monica-based Lightning Entertainment will introduce the project to buyers in Berlin next week.

Due to the intense basketball scenes, the five actresses will attend a rigorous “basketball camp” in New Orleans prior to filming led by Donna Orender, who also serves as the sports advisor for the film. Orender is the former president of the Women’s National Basketball Association.

“I was drawn to this script because of its comedic approach in addressing the negative stereotypes of aging,” Seidelman said. “It’s about time women of a certain age were portrayed on screen in vibrant ways, and I’m convinced there is a big audience out there who will readily identify with this powerful story.”
