Lionsgate and Burbank-based Crest Animation Studios will co-produce the stereoscopic 3D animated family feature Norm Of The North.

Lionsgate will handle North American distribution on the project, the second in the partner’s three-film deal that kicked off with Alpha And Omega (pictured), which is voiced by Justin Long and Hayden Panetierre among others and set to open in October.

Steven and Daniel Altiere wrote Norm Of The North, which is anticipated for delivery in the first quarter of 2012. The story centres on a polar bear who becomes the mascot of a multinational corporation responsible for the destruction of his Arctic home.

Lionsgate’s president of motion picture production Ken Katsumoto and Crest Animation president of production Richard Rich will oversee production for their respective companies.

Lionsgate’s executive vice-president of business and legal affairs, acquisitions and co-productions Wendy Jaffe, along with executive vice-president of strategic planning Sean Kisker and Katsumoto brokered the deal with attorney Josh Grode of Liner Grode Stein Yankelevitz Sunshine Regenstreif & Taylor on behalf of Crest Animation.
