Banking On Mr Toad has been resurrected by producer Timothy Haas after it fell apart due to the Irish banking crisis in 2009.

Mexican film-maker Luis Mandoki has been brought on to direct delayed live action animation Banking On Mr Toad, which will tell the true story of The Wind In The Willows’ writer Kenneth Grahame.

Producer Timothy Haas has written a new screenplay for the feature which was due to shoot in 2009 at Ardmore Studios in Ireland, but was cancelled due to the Irish banking crisis.

The HSL Film Studios’ production will now be based at Pinewood Studios as well as shooting in original locations where Grahame lived and wrote including around his Berkshire home by the River Thames and the Bank of England, where he held the post of Secretary in 1898.

The $20m film is due to shoot early 2012. Ioan Gruffudd was previously attached as the lead, with Samantha Morton is talks to play his wife Elspeth, but the new cast is yet to be announced.

Mandoki’s credits include Angel Eyes and Innocent Voices.
