LA-based producer Lynette Howell is teaming up with UK company Ecosse Films to co-produce On Green Dolphin Street, a film adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’ Cold War love story.
Howell, who was born in Liverpool but relocated to the US over 10 years ago, has been brought onboard as a US partner by Douglas Rae and Robert Bernstein of Ecosse Films.
She will co-produce the $20m project through her LA-based company Silverwood Films. Previous credits include Blue Valentine with Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling, and indie drama Half Nelson in 2006.
Adapted by Becoming Jane writer Kevin Hood, On Green Dolphin Street tells the story of a married English woman who begins a passionate affair with an American journalist. The film will shoot in Canada and Moscow.
Rae, who met Howell in Cannes 2009, described her as a “really exciting young American producer who is incredibly well connected.”
Howell said of the project: “They sent me the script for On Green Dolphin Street as they wanted an American partner for the movie. I loved the script and came on board to produce with them. I really have a tremendous amount of respect for the movies they have gotten made and their work ethic, and creatively we are all on the same page about this movie.”
“I definitely like the idea of either doing UK movies, or working with British partners,” she added.
