German outfit Rich And Famous Film are set to co-produce a new English-language WWII drama called The Violin Of Auschwitz with several major producers, including Lolafilms in Spain and TF1 from France.
The Violin Of Auschwitz is based on a best-selling book by the late Catalan author Maria Angels Anglada about an Auschwitz prisoner forced as part of a bet to make the perfect violin or be killed. The film rights to the book were picked up by Sharon Von Wietersheim and Frank Meiling of Rich And Famous from Spanish film and literary agency Pontas.
The film will be styled on a similar model to Roman Polanski’s The Pianist with co-production duties shared between Rich and Famous Film from Germany, Spain’s Lolafilms, under the guidance of Andrés Vicente Gómez, Biting Point Films in the UK (Eric Styles and Jason Durr), Germany’s Beta Cinema (Dirk Schürhoff), TF1, France (Thierry Decourcelle) and Epo Film, Austria (Dieter Pochlatko).
“Sharon von Wietersheim is currently writing the script and we are looking for a US partner for the project,” Meiling at Rich And Famous Film tells ScreenDaily. “Shooting is planned for summer 2011 in Germany, Austria and Poland.”
The producers are currently looking for a leading director and international cast for the project, with further details expected to be announced at AFM.
