Mandate confirms Spike Lee will direct Oldboy remake

The filmmaker’s 40 Acres & A Mule label will produce alongside Roy Lee and Doug Davison’s Vertigo Entertainment.

Mandate Pictures president Nathan Kahane will serve as executive producer while Vertigo’s Lee and Davison take producer credits.

Mark Protosevich adapted the screenplay from Park Chan-wook’s acclaimed 2003 South Korean revenge tale.

Oldboy recounts the story of a man who seeks answers to his mysterious 15-year imprisonment.

“It’s a great honour to put this special project into the hands of such a gifted writer and iconic director,” Kahane said. Mandate’s svp of business affairs Dan Freedman negotiated the deals with Spike Lee and Protosevich.

Lee’s credits include She’s Gotta Have It, Malcolm X, 25th Hour, Inside Job and Summer Of Sam.
