Canada’s Minds Eye Entertainment, Red Sky Entertainment and Moving Pictures Media will produce the live-action fantasy book adaptation Avalon: Web Of Magic [pictured].

The property comprises 12 young adult novels created by Robert Mandell and written by Rachel Roberts. The story follows a band of chosen children who are approached by magical animals out to defeat an evil sorceress.

Minds Eye plans to produce several feature-length films based on the series and CEO-producer Kevin Dewalt said the target demographic was aimed “squarely for the teen market” but might well capture the attention of fans of all ages.

Producer Isabella Battiston of UK-based Moving Pictures Media has joined the production team. Donald Petrie, whose credits include Miss Congeniality and Richie Rich, will direct.

Petrie’s agent David Gersh and Stephen Saltzman of Loeb and Leob negotiated the deal on behalf of the producers.

Saskfilm is jointly financing development with Minds Eye and Moving Pictures.
