The film joins three additional projects that the new LA and New York-based company has in active development as part of a multi-million dollar development fund.

Kentucky Rhapsody chronicles the true story of Kentucky Governor Happy Chandler’s family as they moved from aristocratic roots in the South to Las Vegas in the 1970s.

The project is based on the stage play June Bug Vs Hurricane by Happy Chandler’s granddaughter, Erin Chandler, and recounts her lifelong struggle with and for her family.

“To launch our company with the acquisition of a script from such a distinguished writer as Nick Cassavetes is beyond what we could have imagined,” Moonquake founder and CEO Jonathan Avigdori said.

MoonQuake Films is scheduled to start production on Kentucky Rhapsody in October in the Kentucky area and Las Vegas.
