Stephen Chbosky of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower fame is set to direct from a screenplay that Larry Stuckey will write.

Santa Is Real is based on the upcoming book Santa Claus Is For Real: A True Christmas Fable About The Magic Of Believing by Charles E Hall and Bret Witter.

The story centres on a struggling actor who took on the role of Santa in Radio City’s Christmas Spectacular and in the process saved his career and rescued Radio City.

The companies will develop, finance and produce the musical family film. Stacey Sher and Alexandra Milchan are producing alongside Walden Media, whose vice-president of development and production Naia Cucukov will oversee for that company.

Busy New Regency has the current number one North American film Gone Girl through Fox, while its dark comedy Birdman from Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu is ready to open through Fox Searchlight on October 17.

Iñárritu’s revenge Western The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy is scheduled for limited release through Fox on December 25, 2015.
