Participant Media’s Catholic Church abuse story has taken a big leap forward now that Open Road, Anonymous Content and eOne Films International and a top-tier cast have come on board.

Tom McCarthy will direct Spotlight, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe investigation into the Church’s cover-up of paedophile priests.

Mark Ruffalo, Aaron Eckhart, Liev Schreiber and Stanley Tucci will star alongside Michael Keaton, whose career could be about to get a second wind with the upcoming Venice world premiere of Birdman.

Spotlight is scheduled to shoot in Boston and Toronto this autumn. eOne Films International handles sales and will distribute directly in the UK, Canada, Spain, Benelux and Australia/New Zealand.

Anonymous Content head Steve Golin produces with Michael Sugar, Nicole Rocklin and Blye Faust.

Participant Media’s Jonathan King and founder Jeff Skoll serve as executive producers.
