The Philm Company fully finances The Last Showing

The Philm Company has raised the finance for its next feature, The Last Showing.

Fully funded by equity investors through the Enterprise Investment Scheme, the psychological horror/thriller is set to go into production in summer.

Producers Phil Hawkins and Alexandra Baranska [pictured] are currently in discussions with sales agents in the UK and US, and plan to take the film to Cannes. Baranska has recently joined the company after working as a theatrical sales executive at 20th Century Fox UK.

The Last Showing has been written by Hawkins, who will also direct, and centres on a recently demoted projectionist who traps a young couple inside a cinema with plans to use the CCTV cameras to create his own horror film.

Hawkins commented: “I’m delighted we’ve raised the finance for The Last Showing. It’s the perfect opportunity to show the type of project The Philm Company will continue to produce: A strong character led story with a fresh take on what is a commercial genre.”

“Cannes will be the ideal place to introduce our slate of films and mark our first appearance in the international market place,” added Baranska.

John and Ros Hubbard of Hubbard Casting are onboard to cast the project.

As well as The Last Showing, The Philm Company has also raised the maximum equity through the SEIS scheme to create a development fund for their production slate.

The slate includes Baptism, based on the novel by Max Kinnings, and Killing the Shadows, an adaptation of Val McDermid’s novel of the same name. A spec trailer for Baptism will be ready for Cannes, along with the screenplay.
