Pinewood and Shepperton fitted with Dolby Atmos
Mixing theatres at the two studios are the very first facilities in the UK to be fitted with Dolby’s end-to-end audio platform.
The Pinewood Group’s mixing theatres at Pinewood and Shepperton Studios are to be fitted with Dolby Atmos, becoming the first facilities in the UK to be fitted with Dolby’s end-to-end audio platform.
Pinewood’s Powell Theatre [pictured] has just reopened following a complete refurbishment, while Shepperton’s Korda Theatre is set to be fitted in January 2013. Dolby Atmos gives content creators unprecendented control of the placement and movement of sound within a cinema.
Dolby Atmos complements existing workflows and can support up to 128 simultaneous and lossless audio streams, as well as allowing up to 64 discrete speaker feeds.
Next month, the Pinewood Post team is expected to start work on one of the first films to utilise a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.
“Pinewood Studios is constantly looking to stay ahead of the game and invest in its facilities and our Post Production department is no exception,” commented Giles Farley, managing director, Pinewood Post Production. “To be the first facilities in the UK and one of the first in the world to have this new system speaks volumes about Pinewood Post’s position in the global film industry.”
Julian Pinn, director, cinema marketing, EMEA, Dolby Laboratories added: “Pinewood and Shepperton Studios are truly iconic and known all over the world - it is exciting to see that they will be the first studio facilities in the UK to have installed Dolby Atmos.”
