Filming has wrapped in The Bronx, New York, on Rashaad Ernesto Green’s debut feature Gun Hill Road, which was selected for this year’s Tribeca All Access Programme.
The 22-day shoot began on July 24 and concluded last week. It shot entirely on location in various Bronx locales including Dewitt Clinton High School and on Gun Hill Road itself.
Esai Morales, Judy Reyes and newcomer Harmony Santana star in the story of a street-hardened ex-con who returns from prison to his estranged wife striving to end an affair and to his teenage son, whose sexual identity is evolving.
Michelle-Anne M Small produced and Ronald Simons served as executive produce through SimonSays Entertainment.
Gun Hill Road was named recipient of the 2009 Spike Lee Fellowship, the 2010 Princess Grace Award, and recognised by the Urban Arts Initiative in New York City and Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance. It will also feature in the 2010 IFP Project Forum taking place from September 19-23.
“Rashaad has written and directed a powerful story about a family struggling to reconnect as cultures, values, and generations collide,” Simons said. “We were blessed with a talented, hardworking cast and crew who brought the right combination of professional experience along with different perspectives on race, sexuality, age and gender. With Rashaad’s vision, we were able to make the story of Gun Hill Road resonate on the screen.”
