Film Reno Tahoe, a new division of Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA), has announced the opening of Reno Tahoe Studios as part of the initiative to boost film production in northern Nevada.

Reno Tahoe Studios is a 300,000 sq ft studio complex built and according to RSCVA president and CEO Christopher Baum the facility will feature “three clear-span stages of 50,000, 60,000 and 70,000 sq ft and numerous production offices and additional spaces.”

Combined with Nevada’s recently passed SB 165 film production incentive that comes into effect on Jan 1 2014, lawmakers and RSCVA officials hope to attain the success Michigan achieved after passing an film incentive that saw its share of the entertainment industry grow from $6m to more than $320m in two years.

“The film industry is driven by economic incentives,” said Film Reno Tahoe Film Liaison Jeff Spilman. “Beginning in January, producers will come to northern Nevada and spend millions of dollars, hiring our workers and doing business with local companies. This would never have happened without the RSCVA’s leadership and hands-on involvement.”
