Andras Hamori of H2O Motion Pictures is producing and filming is set to begin in Toronto on Mar 20 and will continue in Rio de Janeiro through Apr 30.
Mark Horowitz is handing international sales for H2O Motion Pictures and Quickfire Films. The story follows an ex-con who finds trouble when he encounters an enigmatic young woman, played by Ruth Negga.
”The Samaritan was a gripping read,” Hamori said in a release. Hamori produced Cheri and eXistenZ and reteams with Jackson after they worked together on Formula 51.
“Then seeing David [Weaver] and Sam [Jackson] in a meeting for the first time, I realised that this movie would not only be a controversial and commercial thriller, but also an audacious film noir that would be well received on the worldwide festival market.”
David Weaver will direct from a script he co-wrote with Elan Mastai, the writer of Alone In The Dark. Suzanne Cheriton and Tony Wosk are producing and the executive producer roster includes Mark Musselman, whose credits include Barney’s Version and Being Julia, as well as Jackson, Eli Selden, James Atherton, Jan Pace, Mark Horowitz, Geoffrey Brandt, Weaver, Elan Mastai and Lacia Kornylo.
The Samaritan is a Canadian film by H2O Motion Pictures in association with Lumino Pictures, Middle Child Films and Quickfire Films. Degeto will distribute in Germany, Videovision in South Africa and Ascot Elite in Switzerland. eOne will release the film in Canada in 2012.
